Treatment is suitable for people of all ages, so whether your condition is recent or you’re looking for a fresh perspective on a chronic problem, Samantha McTaggart Physiotherapy is here to help. Since qualifying I have been able to train in some of the most effective forms of manual treatment including: Muscle Energy Techniques (METs), osteopathic techniques, myofascial release (MFR) and PIM (Physiotherapy Instrument Mobilisation) and visceral mobilisation. This enables me to work within each system of the body: joints, muscles, fascia, nerves and blood vessels, meaning that I am able to select from a large toolkit of treatment methods depending on what is best for you. This is not ‘one size fits all’, where people who present with the same condition get exactly the same treatment. As no two bodies: are the same; do the same; or have experienced the same injuries, it is important that treatment is tailored to each individual’s needs.

Why do I need a full body assessment?
Our bodies are amazing feats of engineering, but we are not machines and can be influenced by many factors. When one area of the body is injured and/or restricted we are capable of altering our weight bearing or movement patterns to work around the problematic area. In doing so we can then start to overload other parts of our body as they are asked to take on more than their fair share or work in a less than ideal position. Over time these structures can start to complain.
As a result, you may develop an issue with an area of the body without any obvious trauma happening to the area or from a relatively innocuous incident. This is why it is important to establish the root of the problem as opposed to focussing solely on the symptomatic area
The aim of Treatment
Samantha McTaggart Physiotherapy offers a patient focussed, hands on, and most importantly effective form of treatment with many patients experiencing an improvement in symptoms from the very first treatment session.
Symptomatic relief of many MSK conditions can be achieved by restoring optimal biomechanical alignment and function to the areas identified during assessment. This is achieved by using a range of hands-on techniques to mobilise the joints and balance the pull and tension of the body’s soft tissues, allowing the body to function with less pain and restriction. Nerve pain and circulatory conditions can also benefit from this approach with the inclusion of manual nerve and vascular mobilisation techniques. The combination of my hands-on expertise paired with bespoke exercise and advice rarely fails to get results, with speedy referral on to your GP/consultant if necessary.
Some of the most common problems treatment can help with include:
HEADACHES
BACK AND NECK PAIN
AND STIFFNESS
SHOULDER PAIN, FROZEN SHOULDER, SHOULDER IMPINGEMENT
SACROILIAC JOINT (SIJ) DYSFUNCTION
TENNIS AND GOLFER’S ELBOW
TRAPPED NERVES INCLUDING SCIATICA
SPORTS & WORKPLACE RELATED INJURIES
PREGNANCY RELATED PAIN INCLUDING PGP
What to expect at your 1st Appointment
All treatments are held within a private treatment room
Initial consultations last between 45mins-1hour.
Before the first consultation you will be asked to complete a short form providing any relevant medical history and information on your reason for attending
This information will be discussed in more detail during your appointment so that I have a clear understanding of your complaint
With your consent you will then receive a full body assessment, explanation of findings and treatment. While modest underwear is acceptable, a vest and shorts or leggings can also be worn if preferable.
Afterwards I will offer guidance on what to expect after treatment, how to maximise treatment benefits and answer any questions you may have.
